A report of gunfire Friday on a college campus near Seattle sparked a lockdown, but law enforcement officials who scoured the campus could find no evidence of a shooting. An alert from officials at Highline College on Friday morning had said to “please lock down all offices and classrooms until further notice.” Coming just days after 17 students and teachers were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, the second-deadliest public school shooting in the United States, the alert quickly triggered fear.
