七下西洋，鄭和率領龐大的艦隊數次造訪紅海附近的阿拉伯國家。當地人民熱情地拿出他們的土特產咖啡招待這群來自東方的貴客，這種風味獨特的飲料讓船員們興奮，雲南籍船長鄭和便成為中國第一個品嘗到咖啡、並將種子帶回家鄉的人。如今，雲南已然成為中國咖啡的第一生產大省，亞洲主要的咖啡產地之一，是世界咖啡巨頭布局中國乃至亞洲市場的重要區域。

早期阿拉伯人的咖啡是這樣喝的：摘下咖啡果，保留果肉，扔掉果肉裡面的種子（咖啡豆），曬乾，搗碎，煮水，喝湯。

The early Arab drank coffee through the procedure of removing the coffee fruit, keeping the pulp, and discarding the seeds (coffee beans), drying, mashing, boiling in the water.

13-15世紀，伴隨著阿拉伯人軍事、貿易的擴張，咖啡傳播到了歐洲。與此同時，明成祖派遣的鄭和船隊一直向西，抵達阿拉伯世界腹地『天方國』，也就是現在的沙特。雖然鄭和的船員不喝咖啡，但他們喝茶的瓷器、鐵鍋、茶壺以及飲茶的方法在阿拉伯世界中受到了熱烈追捧。

From the 13th to 15th century, coffee spread to Europe along with the expansion of Arab military and trade. At the same time, Ming Chengzu sent Zheng He’s fleets to the west, arriving in the Arab world "TianFang", which is now the Saudi Arabia. 《茶譜》記載，明朝初年上流社會流行一種名為『點茶』的飲茶規範：將茶葉蒸熟，漂洗，揉搓，壓餅，焙乾，碾磨成粉，放到碗裡用开水沖泡，或者在鍋中煮沸，製成茶湯。這種焙茶方式深深影響了阿拉伯人，15世紀以後，咖啡的飲用方式變成了：摘下咖啡果，扔掉果肉，保留種子，將種子焙乾，磨粉，烹煮，喝湯，並且這種沖泡方法一直沿用至今。航海成就了咖啡與茶文化的完美聯姻。
